The Old Forge Farm Shop & Cafe

The Old Forge Farm Shop & Cafe, Salisbury

A small farm shop and cafe in old barns at Berwick St James, just off the A303 near Stonehenge, about nine miles by road north-west of Salisbury. It serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, cakes and afternoon teas, sells local deli produce, and holds pizza nights on Fridays. It reopened in October 2025 under new family owners.

Every item on the breakfast menu has a gluten-free option, and there is always gluten-free bread and at least two gluten-free cakes. The quiche is currently made gluten-free, the ketchup and brown sauce are gluten-free, gluten-free pizza is available on Friday pizza nights, and gluten-free afternoon tea can be arranged with notice. The farm shop also sells gluten-free flour, biscuits, pasta and frozen goods from Chunk.

Georgia, one of the owners, set out how the kitchen handles gluten-free food in September 2026. It is prepared in a separate area of the kitchen; gluten-free toast and toasties have their own toastie machine; gluten-free breakfasts are cooked in separate pans; gluten-free cakes are kept apart from the others on the deli counter; and purple cutlery and tongs are used only for gluten-free food. Staff are allergen trained. The owners say they cannot guarantee against cross-contamination, because the kitchen also handles gluten. A dedicated gluten-free fryer was due to be installed but was not yet in use, so ask before ordering anything deep-fried. Give notice for gluten-free afternoon tea. There is no website; phone or message through Facebook.

Is the gluten-free fryer in use yet? Are there gluten-free scones for a cream tea, and how much notice does a gluten-free afternoon tea need?

One of the owners described the handling directly in September 2026: a separate preparation area, a separate toastie machine and pans, gluten-free cakes stored apart, colour-coded cutlery and tongs, and allergen-trained staff. It is a shared kitchen, not a dedicated one, and the owners do not guarantee against cross-contamination. The dedicated fryer was not yet in use when they wrote.
