The Fox and Goose

The Fox and Goose, Salisbury, SP5 4LE

Independent traditional village pub on Blandford Road in Coombe Bissett, about four miles south-west of Salisbury. Home-cooked food with daily chalkboard specials and local ales.

The Summer and Sunday menus mark gluten-free dishes with a (Gf) key. Two mains carry it, a vegetable and nut paella and a cranberry and cashew nut roast, and a gluten-free roll is available as a side. The pub has two fryers: one is used mainly for chips, and the kitchen uses it for a gluten-free order when you ask, while battered fish, scampi and other fried food go in the other. Sunday roasts are served gluten-free without the Yorkshire pudding and with gluten-free gravy, and the specials boards carry gluten-free options to ask about. The pub confirmed in October 2026 that this is still how it works.

Tell a member of staff that you need a gluten-free order; the menus and specials boards ask gluten-free customers to do this, and it is what gets the chip fryer used rather than the one for battered cod and scampi. The pub says it is not a fully gluten-free kitchen and cannot guarantee that its gluten-free options are 100% gluten free. Its new menu, due in November 2026, will say that all the ingredients in its gluten-free meals are gluten free but that the dishes cannot be guaranteed.

Are the gluten-free paella and nut roast prepared with cross-contact controls safe for a coeliac? What gluten-free options are on the specials board today?

The pub describes two fryers, one used mainly for chips and used for gluten-free orders when the customer asks, with battered fish and scampi in the other, and gluten-free Sunday roasts with gluten-free gravy; it confirmed this in October 2026. It also says it is not a fully gluten-free kitchen and cannot guarantee its gluten-free options are 100% gluten free, so the grade rests on the described fryer arrangement with that limit.
