The Trusty Servant Inn

Minstead, near Lyndhurst, SO43 7FY

Landmark village inn with rooms on Minstead green, a short drive from Lyndhurst and a minute's walk from Arthur Conan Doyle's grave. Its Spring and Summer menu marks not-containing-gluten dishes generously across every course, from crab tian and brisket tacos to lamb rump and a gluten free chicken schnitzel.

The current menu marks plenty as not containing gluten: serrano ham, peach and feta salad, fiery prawn cocktail, crab and avocado tian, hot honey chicken bites and BBQ brisket tacos among starters, then glazed ham, lambs liver, steak of the week, lamb rump, chargrilled tuna and a crispy chicken schnitzel among mains, with gluten free options on the ploughman's and avocado sourdough. Full allergen information is available on request. The pub keeps separate fryers for gluten free food, with their own oil, and uses gluten free flour for some dishes. A new autumn and winter menu starts in October with more gluten free choices.

The menu says plainly that everything is prepared in a kitchen where gluten and other allergens are present. The fryers are separate; say you are coeliac when you order so the rest is handled with the same care. The menu changes in October, so check the day's markings.

How does the kitchen keep a coeliac order clear of flour and bread during preparation?
