Ringwood & Burley

Pub

The Woolpack

Ringwood Road, Sopley, Christchurch, BH23 7AX

A 17th-century thatched village pub between Ringwood and Christchurch whose current menu marks non-gluten-containing dishes across every course, including a marked battered haddock and gluten-free-friendly desserts.

The summer menu marks dishes NGC (non gluten containing) or NGC* (on request) throughout: the battered haddock with triple-cooked chunky chips carries the NGC mark, alongside liver and bacon, honey mustard ham and eggs, gammon, ribs and wings, pan-roasted pork chop and chicken breast, and even onion rings. Desserts include an NGC chocolate brownie, sticky toffee pudding and crumble of the day, and a published allergen chart sits beside the menus.

The pub is upfront that everything is prepared in a kitchen where gluten and other allergens are present, and asks you to mention any allergy before ordering. It has read this entry and let it stand as written, but it has not described how the NGC-marked fried items are kept clear of the battered ones — fryer arrangements in particular — so that is the thing to ask on the day. Researched with care — never a guarantee.

Is the NGC battered haddock fried separately from the standard battered items? The menu notes gluten is present in the kitchen — what do you do differently for a coeliac order?
