Lymington & coast

Pub

The Ship Inn

The Quay, Quay Road, SO41 3AY

A big waterside pub on Lymington's town quay, popular with sailors and day-trippers, serving an all-day pub menu with plenty of fish. It keeps a dedicated gluten free menu on its booking system, from gluten free battered haddock and chips to gluten free pasta and garlic bread.

The gluten free menu runs to soup, pate with oatcakes, steaks with chips, smoked haddock in cheese sauce, lamb casserole, gluten free battered fish and chips, two gluten free penne dishes with optional gluten free garlic bread, salads without croutons and a sundae. The pub asks you to tell your server you are gluten free because most of these dishes are shared with the normal menu.

The gluten free menu is undated and its prices suggest it has not been refreshed recently, so confirm what is currently offered. Nothing describes how the kitchen separates gluten free batter and chips from the ordinary fryers, which is the key question at a busy chip-serving pub.

Is the gluten free battered fish fried separately from the standard battered fish and chips? Is your gluten free menu current, and does the kitchen still offer gluten free pasta and garlic bread?
