Pub

The Gun Inn

Keyhaven Road, Keyhaven, Milford-on-Sea, SO41 0TP

A Grade II listed pub in the harbour hamlet of Keyhaven, a mile from Milford-on-Sea, majoring in locally landed fish. The beer battered haddock and chips is marked gluten free on the menu itself.

The pub has confirmed it runs a separate fryer for the gluten free fish and chips, and a further fryer added since means the beef dripping chips are gluten free again too, so the whole plate is within reach rather than half of it. Gluten free flours are kept in separate locations. The menu marks a wide sweep of dishes gluten free, from the battered haddock to sea bass, dressed crab, catch of the day, steaks and the chocolate brownie, while the burgers and several starters can be made gluten free with a Bakehouse 24 gluten free bun swap.

The kitchen is straight about where the separation stops: the gluten free batter is not kept in a completely separate area, but clean utensils are used for every gluten free dish, and the flours are stored apart. Fryer arrangements have changed recently in your favour, so if you were told fries only on a past visit, that has moved on. Say coeliac when you order.
