Steff's Kitchen (Fairweather's Garden Centre)

Fairweather's Garden Centre, High Street, Beaulieu, SO42 7YB

The cafe at Fairweather's Garden Centre in Beaulieu village, cooking from scratch with fruit and vegetables grown across the road in Patrick's Patch. The menu takes dietary marking seriously, with a printed key distinguishing dishes that are gluten free from those that can be made gluten free.

The kitchen keeps a separate small fryer, always on, just for gluten free customers — the chef's own confirmation. The menu marks most of its main dishes as gluten free available, including the chargrilled burgers, soup of the day, ham egg and chips and nearly all the toasties, with every jacket potato marked gluten free outright. The kids' menu carries the same markings on the mini burger and picnic platter.

The kitchen is honest that it is small and busy and cannot fully guarantee dishes are free from allergen traces. Gluten free bread and buns are swapped in for the available dishes, so tell the counter team you are coeliac when you order.

How are gluten free toasties kept apart from the sourdough ones on the toastie press?
