Hockey's Farm Shop and Farmyard Cafe

South Gorley, near Fordingbridge, SP6 2PW

A farm shop, butchery and farmyard cafe on the A338 at South Gorley, and a major day-tripper stop. The butchery makes its own gluten free sausages and burgers, and the shop has told the guide exactly how they are made.

The butchery makes its own gluten free burgers and rare-breed Lop pork gluten free sausages, made to order rather than always sitting in the counter, so ring ahead if you want them. Diners report a range of gluten free biscuits, cakes and soups in the shop. Gluten free pies are not kept in regular stock, but the shop says it can usually source specific items given a little notice. In the cafe, the menu's own line is that gluten free options may be available and staff will advise on allergens.

The shop has been straight about how the gluten free meat is made: on the same equipment as the standard products, in a butchery that handles gluten, so it states there is a risk of cross contamination. What it does to manage that is timing — gluten free products are made first thing in the day, before any standard products. For a coeliac that is a judgement call worth making with the facts in front of you. Nothing has been published about how the cafe kitchen handles gluten free orders, so ask there separately.

Which cafe dishes can be made gluten free today, and is there gluten free bread for toast and rolls? Are the gluten free sausages and burgers in the counter today, or do they need ordering? Can you source a gluten free item for me if I give you a few days' notice?
