Ringwood & Burley

Hotel

Burley Manor

Ringwood Road, BH24 4BS

Sixteenth-century manor-house hotel above its own deer park on the edge of Burley, now part of the New Forest Hotels group. Menus are well coded for coeliacs, with gluten-free options flagged across most of the restaurant menu and a near-complete gluten-free afternoon tea on paper.

The current menu marks gluten-free or gluten-free-option against the large majority of dishes, from Sunday roast and fish and chips to burgers and puddings, and the afternoon tea menu carries gluten-free options for the sandwiches, most sweets and the scones. Give advance notice for a gluten-free afternoon tea.

The menus say only to speak to the team about allergies — nothing is published about how the kitchen prevents cross-contact behind those GFO marks. Diner reports are mixed: most praise the gluten-free provision, but one coeliac reported being made unwell after eating here. Be explicit that you are coeliac rather than gluten-avoiding, both when booking and at the table.

How does the kitchen keep gluten-free-option dishes apart from standard ones during prep and service? Is the gluten-free fish and chips fried separately from the standard battered fish? For afternoon tea, are the gluten-free scones and sandwiches made and plated away from the wheat ones?
